Dear Friends
It would be true to say that much of what we do needs some kind of
preparation beforehand. The preparation might be practical i.e. make a
list before shopping, or, it might be in our minds, i.e. anticipating an
event or simply looking forward to it. I would suggest that as a result
of the preparations, the event then tends to be more
successful/enjoyable. If lives are so busy that preparation is
practically non-existent, then to arrive at the appointed time, whatever
it is, is to miss out or fail to make the best use of it.
I have often heard it said that half the joy of a holiday is the
anticipation of going and think that’s true, especially if it is
something a little different.
I would say, following my introduction that our celebrations at Easter
also benefit from preparation. Not to have done anything during Lent,
simply because of busyness or lack of planning and then simply to arrive
at Easter Sunday, will detract from your appreciation/enjoyment of it in
terms of gratitude to God, and the quality of praise. Even if taking
part in a ‘Lent’ course is not possible, then at least Maundy Thursday
and Good Friday can go some considerable way to preparing you for the
joy of Easter. We spend so much time preparing for Christmas, yet Easter
is the key to the Gospel message of God’s love. So, you now have 31 days
left of preparation time for Easter!
