An inspirational African children’s choir will be visiting Weston for one night only, on February 2nd 2010.

Watoto Childrens Choir - Christ Church Weston-super-Mare - 2 February 2010

Watoto means “The Children”, and through their inspirational songs and compelling stories, The Watoto Children’s Choir is spreading a message of hope for Africa’s children.

Each child in the choir has experienced tremendous personal tragedy, having lost one or both parents in the African AIDS crisis or other calamities. Now through their music and dance, audiences around the world are able to hear the stories of lives changed through the work of the Ugandan charity – Watoto Child Care Ministries.

The choir’s music and multimedia presentation is a soulful fusion of gospel and contemporary African style. Dressed in colourful costume, the children’s enthusiastic song and energetic dance has moved audiences world-wide. In recent years Watoto Children’s Choirs have had the privilege of singing for Her Majesty the Queen at Buckingham Palace, in the Houses of Parliament, the White House in Washington, and also at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meetings in Kampala.

Sharron Taylor, joint organizer of the concert said, ‘When I first saw this choir a year ago, I was mesmerized by their incredible stories of hope despite having gone through some most traumatic life experiences.  Their faces radiate life, joy, positivity and happiness.   Having seen them once, I just had to find a way for them to return to Weston, so that more people can experience this incredible presentation.’

The choir are performing on Tuesday 2nd February, 7.30pm at Christ Church, Montpelier, Weston-super-Mare.

Entry is FREE.

At the event, people will be able to browse and buy the choir’s music and videos along with a range of craftwork, jewellery, gifts and clothing – all made in Uganda.

Further information is available by calling Sharron on 01934 424458 or the church office on 01934 641016.
